Queston About Date Codes On Vacumatic Pens
For obvious reasons it’s virtually impossible to list all the pens made by Parker from this period. Partly because there was a constant tinkering going on and since all pens were more or less hand made there are discrepancies, prototypes and repairs made with different spares. Partly because Parker also made alot of pens by order. If You wanted a pen with a gold band engraved with that special flower, Parker would most probably have accomodated You.

Cropping up often enough to convince aficianados of correctness of the find, this one is a bit of an in-betweener. Most convincing is that when they are found in the wild they have mid-late date codes, just about the time the switchover would be expected to occur. I have- if i recall correctly- all three colors in both sizes in my personal collection. This one packs the expected code. The nib is the pre- chevron or “V” nib and is marked just Parker Pen, as with all of these found from Any of these triple-band pens is well less common than the later style and the only single jewel variant is less common still.

Hi there, does anyone have a list of Parker pen date codes from start of date codes untill ? Thanks.
This iconic beauty had been on my wish list for six months, although I was not actively looking for one and was deterred by the price. A new Duofold, in Big Red colours, was reduced to less than half price to clear. A black model with gold furniture was still at full price. It was not clear to me at the time, whether it was a Centennial or an International since there was nothing to compare it with.
In fact I had forgotten again which was which. The Centennial is the bigger of the two versions. There was no help from the packaging. Notwithstanding this question, I decided to snap it up. I had looked at the nib with my loupe and the indications were that it would be smooth and reasonably wet. This was confirmed when I dipped it, but a dipped nib is not representative of how a pen will write when filled normally.
I could not wait to get it home and try it out.

Return to Parker. For those of us concerned with when a pen was made, Parker is the sweetest of all makers, in that many of their pen actually have a date printed right on them. Not only the year, but which quarter of the year, will appear, giving a very clear sense of just how old the pen is. While modern Parkers that follow this practice mark only the barrel or cap of the pen, vintage pens generally have a code on the barrel and on the point.
One generally takes the barrel as definitive of the age of the pen as a unit, since caps, barrels and blind caps were usually all made together, and swapping tends to show. This does not mean that a point whose date code does not agree with the barrel is necessarily a replacement. An other thing to not get too concerned about is finding a pen has lost its code. Modern pens are much more likely to present their codes, but their codes are less easily understood.
